Consulting, how does it work?
1. Step #1 is starting with a short conversation to get some details on the solution you are looking for.
examples:
Buying a new Device (choosing a new laptop, computer, tablet, printer, monitor, etc).
Going paperless (choosing a scanner, software, and filing process).
Implementing Project Management (choosing the correct platform, transferring data from old system, designing processes, training staff, etc.)
Selling your products online (eBay, Amazon, your own eCommerce store, etc.)
2. If we both agree to proceed the next phase is a 4 step process called the NEEDS ANALYSIS.
- Understand Purpose
- Identify Priorities
- Research and gather information
- Recommend a SOLUTION
3. This may conclude the project, or in some cases, the final step is Implementing the new solution
examples:
Setting up your new device (installing software, transferring data, upgrading Windows, etc)
Training (coaching on how to use the new software/computer/phone, teaching you how to make changes to your own website, etc)
NEEDS ANALYSIS, a little more information.
- Understand Purpose
- This stage is the most important. It involves identifying your needs. You want to buy a new computer, but much memory/CPU power/HDD space are you going to need? You need a new email provider for your company, should you use a free one or pay for hosted mail? You would like to be able to seamlessly share documents and track work orders but there are 10 different software applications ranging from free to $15,000/yr.
- Identify Priorities
- For all of the scenarios above, there is budget, convenience, technical difficulty, and many more variables to consider. Each person or company may have different priorities on similar projects.
- Research and Gather Information
- This is all the behind the scenes work we do. It involves researching all the options, reaching out to other industry leading experts, and then comparing the information with your purpose and priorities.
- Recommend a Solution
- In most cases there will be a recommended solution and then there will be the next best options based on price or other priorities that have been identified.
- Implementation and Training
- The last stage of the process. This may be developing systems and flow charts for your new software or it may involve setting up your new device and transferring data.
